Chestnut Bakery Review
Bakeries & Coffee Shops
Chestnut is another bakery that I have been following on social media for some time and I’ve been eager to try their beautiful pastries. On a rainy day last month I took a visit to the Covent Garden branch located on Floral Street and managed to grab the last seat downstairs!
I treat myself to a flat white and the March limited edition croissant, the Persian Croissant; a twice-baked croissant filled with pistachio almond cream, rose water pastry cream, pistachio ganache and caramelised pistachio, topped with pistachio mascarpone whipped cream and pistachio crumble. The pastry was crisp and flakey, and the savoury salty taste of the roasted pistachios balanced out the sweetness of the rose filling beautifully. I have never experienced anything like it; it was by far the best croissant I have ever eaten in my life.
The cafe itself was brightly lit with gorgeous white tiles and light wood furniture. On top of the counter stretched a long wooden cabinet with glass panels; the rows of croissants, pastries and savoury goods were a visual feast. The coffee was pleasant and served in lovely, simplistic crockery. It had a cosy Scandinavian feel, making it the perfect place to catch up with work, hang out with friends, or escape the rain!
The menu presents a wide variety of baked goods and there’s something for everyone, from indulgent cakes and pastries, to freshly made sandwiches and handcrafted flatbreads. The theme at Chestnut is ‘international baking’, which means you’ll find a selection of breads from around the world. They offer a special croissant variation each month so be sure to check it out!
The prices are a bit steeper than you might find elsewhere but it’s so worth it, both for the delicious baked goods and the stunning location! I’ll definitely be back to try more.
